Brooke Swimming

We had one of the hottest days all summer yesterday, the unofficial last day of summer – – labor day.  We all went for a walk after dinner and didn’t make it very far because of the heat and humidity.  Laura graciously volunteered to watch Alex at home to keep him out of the heat while Brooke and I went to the pool, the last day it’s open for the summer.  We had fun splashing around and Brooke got very courageous and swam without her swim noodle.  She did a great job with just her arm floaties and really enjoyed it.  The video is about the fourth time she swam on her own yesterday.  Each time if I tried to help her while she was doing fine, she would say “No Dadda, Brooke try.”

Picnic Watching Airplanes

Yesterday evening we all went to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens where they have a nice overlook to the airplanes at Norfolk Airport.  In addition to Brooke being infatuated with Alex right now, she also loves airplanes.  We bought her a new lunch box this past week in anticipation of her starting school again in another week, and she chose one featuring the movie ‘Planes’.  Brooke got to bring her picnic dinner with her in her new lunch box which can be seen in these pictures.  It was a very relaxing evening, despite it being 95°, as there was a strong wind and lots of shade.

Big Helper

Brooke has been quite the helper since Alex came home.  She is very interested in everything involving Alex, including his feedings.  She loves to help and keep Alex awake during his feedings by showing him toys.  Brooke also likes to rock in her chair next to her Mommy while Mommy rocks with Alex.  It’s all incredibly cute.

Alex’s First Weekend At Home

Brooke has been a fantastic big sister to Alex.  She has made this transition to having another person in our house so much easier by helping Laura and me out.  She loves to give Alex kisses, play next to him, rock him gently, and help us by getting things from other rooms and changing him.  It’s been a great weekend.
