Alex’s 3 year well check

Today was Alex’s 3 year old well child check and of course he is healthy and growing well.  The official stats are in!  He is 42.9 inches tall (which we knew crudely from measuring for rides at Busch Gardens) and weighs 45lbs (another one we knew because he likes to weigh himself).  Dr. Mink said he was doing great and hitting all his milestones.

Solar Eclipse

Oma and Opa were here to enjoy the solar eclipse with us today.  We had 87% of the sun eclipsed by the moon at the max and had some fun watching both sides of the eclipse.  We also enjoyed noticing the change in light at the max, the eclipse pattern from the trees, and making pinholes viewers with our hands.  AJ took his glasses with him to work and stepped outside to view the eclipse during his shift.

Alex’s 3rd Birthday

Alex wanted a tiger birthday party for his 3rd birthday so we had some fun with jungle animals.  We decorated the house with animals and put them on the cupcakes.  Brooke helped me hide large plastic jungle animal toys in the backyard so that Alex’s friends could go on ‘safari’ with their tiger binoculars and find and keep them.  Everyone had a great time finding their animals, playing with them, and all of our toys in the playroom.  After dinner and birthday cupcakes the guests left and Alex opened his train tracks from Oma and Opa for the train table AJ built.  The next morning he opened all of his presents after having birthday pancakes.

Alex’s Train Table

AJ put his woodworking skills to use building Alex a custom train table for his third birthday.  It is larger and taller than a standard train table which is a perfect fit for Alex’s room and our taller than average children.  After we decided how big it should be, AJ got to work making the table with a beautiful inlay for the trains and tracks to go on.  He stained the wood and then painted a polyurethane finish.  The finished product is gorgeous and Alex loves it!  It was completed prior to going on vacation but Oma and Opa gave Alex the finishing touches of the tracks for his birthday.  Alex (and everyone else) has been having a great time playing with the new train table.

Brooke’s First Lost Tooth

Brooke lost her first tooth while we were on vacation in Sandbridge.  After a month of it being wiggly and having to avoid eating with her front teeth she woke one morning and came to me to show how her tooth was almost all the way out!  It popped right out and she was excited to put it under her pillow in her tooth case to get a shiny quarter from the tooth fairy!  Her adult tooth is already very visible and making it’s way through!
