Great Wolf Lodge

We took Brooke to the Great Wolf Lodge last week for a family vacation.  The Great Wolf Lodge is a water park that caters to children and families.  It was the first time that we all stayed in one room and Brooke slept in the pull out sofa.  She was so used to her big girl bed (and she was so tuckered out from all the fun) that she was a champ and napped and slept wonderfully with us 4 feet away (behind a 6 foot partition).  The water park had everything!  They had a large pool just for toddlers which included water slides.  Brooke loved to go down the slides and kept saying ‘more’ at the end of each ride.  There was also a large playground full of different water buckets and wheels to turn which would change the pattern of the water coming out.  One of Brooke’s favorite things to do (which we unfortunately could not capture because it was too wet in that area) was have Laura hold the bucket with it pouring out just a little.  Brooke would put her hand under the stream and Laura would warn her with “aaaaaa splash!’ and then pour more water out splashing Brooke’s hand and body.  Brooke again would laugh and say ‘more’!  There were lots of water slides for adults that I went down and even a few that were safe for Laura too.  There was an ocean pool that we splashed in the waves.  Lots of small fountains that Brooke liked to walk through or put her hands in.  Also there was a pool with basketball hoops and Brooke loved playing with the ball and I helped her with a few slam dunks.  Every night there was storytime in the lobby which Brooke attended, also other fun things like dance parties and an arcade and cub club where she could draw/color to her hearts content and had a variety of toys to play with.  We had such a great time that we even stayed an extra night.

February Beach Day

This weekend we had unseasonably warm weather and got to enjoy it as a family.  On Saturday we enjoyed the animals and lunch at Bergey’s farm.  Brooke and AJ shared some of their homemade ice cream.  Then we had extended play time at the park for Brooke.  On Sunday we headed to the beach and if it got too cold we would go to the aquarium.  It was 75 degrees, sunny, with very little wind at the beach so we decided to spend the whole morning there.  We walked on the sand, played near the water, Brooke played twice on the playground (before and after lunch), we walked on the boardwalk (Brooke insisted she push the stroller), and we had lunch sitting outside at a little cafe facing the ocean.  We wore Brooke out!

Snow Day 2014

Overnight last night starting at 6:30pm it snowed.  This morning we woke up to 3-4 inches.  With AJ off all day we were very excited for a family snow day.  After breakfast we all bundled up in our snow gear.  Two weeks ago at target I had noticed that they had toddler snow bibs on clearance for $8 (if you know anything about children’s departments they always have everything sold out by the time you actually need it).  I bought one and convinced AJ that if we didn’t use it Target had a 90 day return policy and I’d save the receipt.  Brooke wore her new snow bib today and kept warm.  She had a lot of fun with us.  We started off in our driveway using the steepness of it to our advantage to boogie-board down the snow.  She got the hang of trying to throw snowballs but really just picked up snow and wiped it on your sleeve or pant leg and then laughed hysterically.  Snow angels did not go well as she did not like being laid in the snow.  Since it was 15 degrees out today (felt like 6) we only stayed out for 15 minutes before Brooke had enough.  We warmed up with some hot cocoa for everyone and a fire and then she wanted to go ‘outside’ again.  This time we ventured into our backyard for some snow swinging, playhouse fun, and more sledding.  We also went out again after her nap and attempted to build a snowman but the snow was all powder, so we took Brooke on a wagon ride in the snow and then had some delicious homemade soup and got her into a warm bath before bed.
