Mountain Vacation

We took time away to enjoy our family on a vacation in the mountains.  We took a stepping stone approach to get to our rental cabin and spent our first day at Water Country.  Everyone had a great time at the waterpark and after nap that day we had dinner at and walked around Colonial Williamsburg.  The next day we enjoyed lunch at Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall, a beautiful area with al fresco dining and boutique shops.  When we arrived at our cabin we didn’t waste anytime and got down to business- eating smores.  It was Alex’s first smore.  The next day we hiked 1.2 miles vertically up Crabtree Falls, had a picnic lunch, then hiked down.  Alex had to be carried most of the way because the trail was very steep with rock stairs but Brooke did amazing and would have gone farther if we could.  We cooled off that afternoon at Sherando Lake, swimming and running around.  The next day we took a ‘meadow trail’ so Alex could walk more around Upper Lake and the kids played at the campsite playground.  Then we had lunch at Sherando Lake and swam and splashed some more.  Brooke and I swam all the way to the island in the middle and AJ carried Alex to the island around the trail (and through a shallow bit of water) and we all walked around the island.  Everyone was very tired after our busy trip!

Alex’s 2nd Birthday Party

Today was Alex’s 2nd Birthday Party and he had a lot of fun with old friends from stroller strides, our playgroup friends, and our neighbors.  Since he is a summer baby we had a train themed summer party with splash pads, a slip and slide, and bubble fun. Everyone had a great time in the water and enjoyed the cupcakes after lunch.  Alex had a lot of fun opening all his birthday presents too!

Alex’s 2nd Birthday

Birthday boy started his day with a stack of pancakes and blowing out candles.  Then we took him to his two year old well child check up where Dr. Mink confirmed our suspicions that he was huge.  After lunch of pizza, one of his favorite foods, he opened our presents and was very happy to receive more trains, books, and an Elmo doll.  Cake came right after nap because Daddy had to head to work, but a sleepy Alex didn’t seem to mind cake before dinner.  We had planned on going bike riding, as that is another one of his favorite things, but it rained.  Luckily it was just a rainstorm and not a thunderstorm and therefore perfect puddle jumping weather.  Happy 2nd Birthday Alex!

Brooke’s Gymnastics Camp

Brooke got to go to her first camp this summer.  We weren’t sure if she would like it so we initially started her off just three out of the five days, but she was enjoying herself so much that we ended up signing her up for the other two days after the 2nd day.  She loved going there every morning and doing gymnastics with the other kids, making a craft and having snacks.

Brooke’s 4th Birthday and Party

This year Brooke’s birthday fell on the day we had her birthday party.  She woke up very excited on Saturday to be 4 years old.  She had a great time at her Mermaid Under The Sea themed birthday party with some fun themed foods, custom-made ‘feed the fish’ and mermaid bean bag boards, and her bounce house.  She got a lot of great gifts too and then after Alex’s nap we took her to play at the pool.  What a fun-filled birthday!
