No more bottles for big girl Brooke

For a month now we eliminated Brooke’s afternoon and evening bottles and she used a sippy cup for milk.  She was always using a sippy cup before for water but at her year birthday we switched to water bottles so she could carry/drink more water.  Yesterday we eliminated her morning milk bottle and put that milk in her sippy cup.  She was annoyed for one minute then took it like a champ. No more bottles for Brooke!!

Canoeing Northwest River Park

We decided to take Brooke canoeing yesterday.  Laura had thought it might be a fun family activity because Brooke enjoys biking so much she might like being on the water.  We started out on a beautiful river in Chesapeake and Brooke was entertained for about ten minutes.  Afterwards, Laura went from assistant paddler to full time singer of songs to please the baby.  We docked the canoe and walked around a bit to give Brooke a break, however, her mood did not improve much.  It was then we realized that we were up the creek with two paddles and one fussy baby.  It was an adventure getting back but we did it and learned that you should not take a toddler canoeing near her dinner time. We look forward to trying again in a few years.

Monday Butterflies

We have been enjoying the ‘cooler’ summer temperatures, therefore, Brooke and I went to the botanical gardens and enjoyed the butterfly exhibit.  It was nice that it wasn’t so hot that all you wanted to do was spend time in the water fountains.  She had a lot of fun looking at them in the butterfly house and chasing after them in the large open gardens.  So many different beautiful large ones!

Date Night – The Great Turtle Migration

With being off of work for the last few weeks, we’ve been going on several date nights to make up for lost time.  Last night we went to dinner and then to an awesome glass blowing party at the Chrysler Museum of Art.  They made a huge glass sea turtle with a live reggae band playing all while we had drinks and otter pops to stay cool from the impressive amount of heat used to form and shape the glass.

Blueberry and Blackberry Picking

This afternoon we went blueberry and blackberry picking at a nearby farm in Pungo.  We were joined by Jen and her daughter Adrianna, who is one of Brooke’s favorite people.  The girls had fun picking and eating the berries and so did we.  AJ in particular was very good at picking with his speed and ability to get some of the hard to reach ones.  It was a fun thing to do on a hot day.
