Brooke’s 6th Birthday

Today Brooke turned 6!  As is our family tradition she got to pick all the meals and what we did that day.  We started it off with birthday donuts followed by getting her on the bus for school.  We quickly went and got her the lunch she wanted and drove to school to meet her for lunch.  Brooke helped me pick some peonies from our yard for her favorite teacher Mrs. Pickering who shares Brooke’s birthday.  We got to eat lunch with Brooke and she choose one friend to join her at the birthday table.  She selected her good friend Julian.  After eating her Wendy’s chicken nuggets and fries with sprite (her first time having soda at a meal!), we passed out the ice cream bars we had purchased from the school cafeteria to share with her class to celebrate her birthday.  Everyone enjoyed their treat.  Mrs. Pickering was so kind and told us that we could come with them to their classroom to have the kids sing to her.  After they did AJ lead the class in a rousing second singing of happy birthday for Mrs. Pickering. After school Brooke got to play with her new toys as she requested and I made her stroganoff (her favorite meal) for dinner followed by birthday cake!

Brooke’s 6th Birthday Party

Brooke decided to have her 6th Birthday Party at the local trampoline park Cloud9.  She invited her friends to join in her for an hour of jumping and fun obstacles followed by pizza lunch and of course cake.  She had such a great time and even spontaneously thanked us for such a great party.  When we got home she got to open all her presents including her Pogo stick which she had been asking for.

Fun Day in Norfolk

Today I took the kids to the Wells Theater for Children’s Theatre of Hamton Roads presentation of Davy Crockett’s Tremendously Tall Tales.  We got to Norfolk early to ensure the tickets I bought a long time ago were at will call and then walked to the USS Wisconsin for to look around before returning to the show.  The kids had a lot of fun and the play was written by the 3 actors who preformed it.  It was very interactive and we all loved it.  Afterwards the kids were hungry so we walked to The Granby Deli for sandwiches al fresco.  We walked around enjoying the art before spending over an hour at the Slover library enjoying their books, interactive areas, and their rooftop garden. We walked down to waterside before heading home.  It was a great day!

Tire Swing

Brooke has asked for a swing in our yard on and off for a little while now, so today while she was at school Alex and I went and got a tire from a local tire shop (you’d be amazed at how many tire shops won’t give you an old tire they are going to throw out and are actually paying a company to take off their hands).  Then we went and got the hardware and while Alex was at a play date I cleaned, drilled and assembled them a tire swing.  Brooke and Alex were both very excited when they came home and saw it.

Brooke’s April Family Homework

This month Brooke had to make a flower for her ‘Kinder-Garden’ at school.  AJ helped Brooke make this beautiful flower!
