Apple Volcanoes at Pre-K

Alex’s main teacher is a scientist by training and likes to implement science projects in her class (we are thrilled).  Today they did apple volcanoes and shared the pictures!

Railroad Museum of Virginia

AJ wanted to have some daddy time with Brooke and Alex so he took them to lunch and then to the Railroad Museum of Virginia.  Everyone had a good time looking at the trains and even using their arms to move the wheels on one!

Alex’s First Day of School

Today Alex has his first day of Pre-K!  He even had his first week of homework ready to give to his teachers Miss Jessica and Miss Kay!

Save the Bay Day

Today we went to Save the Bay Day at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s new Brock Environmental Center.  We walked around and saw the exhibits and then competed in an oyster filter challange.  Did you know that a single oyster will filter (completely clean) fifty gallons of water a day?  Brooke and Alex were on a team (with my help of course) to build a oyster filter.  We placed many many different items (coffee filters, sand, string, marbles, cotton balls, rocks, oyster shells, paper-towels) over the opening to a mason jar.  Then the program director poured very dirty water in it.  We competed with 3 other teams to see whose water would be filtered the best (i.e. be the cleanest).  Brooke and Alex won!  They got to pour their filtered water into a tank with living oysters and crabs to enjoy!  It was a cool experience.

Alex’s Pre-K Open House

Today I took Alex to meet his new teachers Miss Jessica and Miss Kay.  He enjoyed meeting them and playing with some of the toys in the classroom.  He is very excited to start his 3 day Pre-K next week!
